Possible announced Dr. Gita Pillai as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Pillai brings over twenty years of leadership experience with programs that improve access to positive health outcomes. Her experience spans several countries in South Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
With the Urban Health Initiative in India, she led a consortium that scaled successful strategies to over 800,000 families across 2,100 slums and replicated quality service days in 42 district hospitals in collaboration with the government. With CARE India, Dr. Pillai directed programs that reached over 8 million people in 123,000 rural villages to improve health and nutrition outcomes in coordination with and co-financed with the Government of India. With JSI in Central Asia, Dr. Pillai guided county leaders and program managers to improve perinatal care and family friendly services in 53 maternity hospitals, facilitated the introduction of quality improvement systems based on monitoring and clinical mentoring, and leveraged positive results to refine national protocols of evidence-based practice aligned with WHO European standards. In each role, she ensured program frameworks and resources strengthened health systems and contributed to national goals.
Dr. Pillai has a reputation of engendering commitment and stimulating joint planning and action among diverse stakeholders including NGOs, government departments, and communities. Her deep commitment to achieving universal health coverage is evident by her steadfast focus on reaching the most underserved, especially in fragile and resource poor settings.
In addition, Dr. Pillai brings a track record of excellence in management, research, and fundraising, and in strengthening country leadership to achieve their goals. Dr. Pillai has presented and published on family planning, women and newborn health, data-based decision making, and global health partnerships.
Dr. Pillai received her PhD from Johns Hopkins University and her MPH from The University of Michigan.
Dr. Pillai joins Possible at a pivotal moment, as the organization strives to translate more than a decade of implementation experience to have an impact on more municipalities across Nepal and beyond.
