The mission of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) is to turn ideas into action.

Our idea began in 2008, when there was a hospital on a hill whose doors had been closed for 30 years. It stood empty in one of the most remote regions of Nepal.

Fast forward seven years, and we’ve established a durable healthcare system with Nepali government partners, built a team of 300 employees, and treated over 275,000 patients.

We know what it takes to build a health system from the ground-up, where there’s destroyed or damaged infrastructure and a shortage of human capital.

And then the devastating earthquakes struck Nepal, killing nearly 9,000, destroying over 1,100 healthcare facilities, and leaving an estimated 2.5 million people homeless.

Once again, it was time to take our idea and make a bold commitment: Rebuild the healthcare system in one of the worst-hit districts of Nepal.
