Remembering Dr. Paul Farmer

February 28, 2022 - Possible

Dr. Paul Farmer’s impact on global health cannot be overstated. We have been overwhelmed with the outpour of messages and memories from people he inspired.

As our co-founder Dr. Bibhav Acharya reflects, Possible started with “five medical students with no track record, no funding and no credibility but [they] wanted to replicate the model of Partners In Health in Nepal”. Paul took our team under his wing and provided mentorship, joined the Board, and supported fundraising efforts. All of his support enabled us to hire the first staff members in the small clinic in Far West Nepal that expanded to 300+ staff and 3 hospitals.

Today, Possible and Sambhav (Possible-Nepal) engage in collaborative research to address gaps in healthcare equity, quality, and accessibility. Nyaya Health Nepal continues to lead and provide high-quality healthcare in rural Nepal from those humble beginnings. Click here to read a tribute to Paul Farmer where we describe his impact.

As we mourn this loss, we are committed to carrying Paul’s legacy forward by continuing to challenge “failures of imagination” to realize our shared vision of access to high-quality healthcare for all.
