World Environment Day: Healthcare with Durable Design

June 5th is World Environment Day, a day to encourage global awareness and action for the environment. Read how our healthcare model is tied integrally into natural resources and durable, smart design.

 

Durability is at the core of our work.

We need to build a durable healthcare system so patients can receive high-quality, low-cost, and follow-up care at our hospital, health clinics, and the their own home.

We need to build a durable revenue system so we can realign revenue with care. Our performance-based financing system with the Nepali government means we only get paid if we produce results — incentivizing healthcare delivery around effective, not excessive, care.

We also need to build durable healthcare facilities that match the challenges we face. We deliver care in an extremely isolated region of Nepal, where there’s very little water, electricity, and systems to properly manage waste. By building with durable design, we lower costs, maximize on renewable resources, and reduce our carbon footprint.
